Watch Dave Grohl Play ‘Best of You,’ Call Taylor Swift ‘Batman’

During Dave Grohl‘s acoustic set at the Citi/Live Nation private party around Cannes Lions, the Foo Fighters frontman recalled a time when Taylor Swift saved him from embarrassment in front of Paul McCartney. The story led into Grohl performing the Foo Fighters hit “Best of You.”

As he playfully strummed on his guitar, Grohl prefaced the story by noting that he attended a party at McCartney’s house. The Beatle suddenly took to the piano at the event and decided to play a new song. “Just so you know, Paul McCartney is the baddest motherfucker in the world,” the rocker added.

As McCartney wrapped the song, he invited Grohl to also perform but the drummer and guitarist doesn’t play the piano. He looked at the guitars, and since McCartney is left-handed, he couldn’t play any of the instruments at hand. “Also I maybe smoked a little pot,” he said with a giggle. “So I was already challenged.”

Swift then stood up and offered to play a song. “Fucking Batman when you need him,” Grohl said. From there, Swift went to the piano and Grohl decided to try jamming with her on one of McCartney’s left-handed basses. It took a moment for Grohl to realize that Swift had started singing his own song, “Best of You,” on the piano. “As if I weren’t high enough, that fucking blew me into outer space, man,” he said. The rocker complimented Swift’s vocal skills before launching to his solo, acoustic version of the track.

Swift opened for Foo Fighters at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in May 2015. During the Foo Fighters set, Grohl revealed that he was “obsessed” with the singer and dedicated several songs to her.
