Beck joins Flume on new song “Tiny Cities”

Australian producer Flume pulled in some big guns for his forthcoming sophomore album, Skin. Already he’s shared collaborative tracks with Kai , Tove Lo, and Vince Staples and Kučka. Now, he’s revealed his biggest guest feature yet with the Beckassisted “Tiny Cities”.

The glossy song opens with a skittering, slow beat over which Beck sings about being haunted by the ruins of a relationship. “It was never perfect/ It was never meant to last,” he reiterates over and over before the song shifts directions. After the halfway point, the sparse, anthemic instrumentation is superseded by thudding low end and glass scratching synths. As the song falls from the climax, however, there’s a pleasant blend of the two moods, one part heady rhythms, one part airy romance.

Check out the song, bookended by a discussion Beck and Flume had with Zane Lowe of Beats 1 Radio about how the song came together, below.

Skin is out May 27th via Mom + Pop. The entire thing will stream beginning at 5:30 PM EST today (May 25th) during a Facebook Live event.
