Red Hot Chili Peppers member Flea played a bass-only rendition of the US national anthem to mark basketball player Kobe Bryant’s final game for the LA Lakers last night (April 13).

Bryant is set to retire, having won five NBA championships with the team since making his debut in 1996. The star’s final game was against Utah Jazz, with the Lakers coming back to win 101-96.

Prior to the game, Flea performed ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ in front of 18,000 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Watch footage below.

Flea is a well-known LA Lakers fan and recently compared Bryant to “Charlie Parker or John Coltrane or Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix” as a “master of his craft”.

Meanwhile, Flea recently said that Red Hot Chili Peppers are “heading into a new era” as they finish work on their new album.

Red Hot Chili Peppers recently announced a series of tour dates and festival appearances booked for the summer. Among those dates is a headline slot at Reading and Leeds Festival 2016. They will also headline T In The Park and have also been rumoured as headliners for this year’s Lollapalooza.
