Red Hot Chili Peppers are well into their third decade of existence, but the band hasn’t lost its youthful spirit. To kick off their encore at this weekend’s Pinkpop Festival, Anthony Kiedis strapped on a bass for the first time and joined his bandmates in an improvised jam of The Beatles’ “Hey Bulldog”. After a bit of string slapping and a few chuckles, Kiedis relinquished the bass to Flea as the band segued into “Soul to Squeeze”.
