Peter Teahan, the man who first posted the ‘Mr Brightside’ pub singalong video, has said The Killers‘ hit helped to provide a “very good send-off” for his late friend.
In the video that has now gone viral, Brian O’Sullivan from Killorglin, County Kerry is seen paying his respects to Ger ‘Farmer’ Foley – who recently died at the age of 45 – by prompting a mass singalong at local pub Falvey’s bar.
During his rendition of ‘Mr Brightside’, O’Sullivan is seen whipping off his shirt and proceeding to crowd-surf in Foley’s honour. Watch footage of the heartwarming moment below.
“It certainly wasn’t a normal Thursday night in Falveys,” Teahan told the BBC. “A lot of people had been getting up to sing, one person had a guitar and did [well-known Irish song] ‘Raglan Road]. Brian was a good friend of Ger’s, and that was one of Ger’s favourite songs, so he got everyone going.”
“Most people in the area knew Ger, he was very popular. It was a very good send-off for him,” Teahan added.
Since it went viral, The Killers themselves have endorsed the video, writing on Twitter: “Brian O’Sullivan, if Brandon ever needs a fill-in, we’re calling you! May we all have friends like this #farmersrule”.
