For this year’s Record Store Day (April 16th), Foals are releasing a special 7-inch single. Today, they’ve shared the A-side, a previously unheard track entitled “Rain”.
Taken from the sessions for last year’s What Went Down, “Rain” is fairly minimalist for the English alternative rockers. Its echoey synths and muffled beat sound more like something Devon Welsh of Majical Cloudz (R.I.P.) might write rather than a band who once opened for Metallica. Yannis Philippaakis’ vocals do most of the heavy lifting here, which is completely fine as his powerful pipes can more than carry the load. Take a listen below.
“Rain” is backed by Foals’ cover of Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker’s “Daffodils”.
